Poreč

The bus to Poreč left at 11.30 and took a couple of hours winding through low hills covered in olive trees. I had a room booked at the hotel by the bus station to get the early bus in the morning and wasn´t expecting much. Instead it turned out to be a huge complex with a casino and all the rooms have balconies.

Poreč is unquestionably a resort town, which gives it a very strange feel out of season walking along deserted streets past closed souvenier shops and wine bars. There are a few old city walls and a 5th century basillica that is apparently the oldest church in continuous use. The weather is beautiful and I have to wonder why so few people bother outside the summer season, really not having hordes of other peoples children around should be a plus on any holiday.
