El Grito

Today is Mexican independence day, the official celebrations started at 11 last night with El Grito, the cry for independence given in every town square around the country. We didnt actually see it in Oaxaca with all the crowds but were there for the fireworks and music and the whole crowd being sprayed with foam.  The whole population seemed to be on the streets and it took a torrential downpour at 2am to finally clear the crowds and send us back to the hostel.

The celebrations continued today, I missed the military parade but did see the various bands and dancers around the zoccalo.
